The MP3 Player

'The MP3 Player' is an avid fan of music. It's her first year catching this bus, but her confidence makes it seem otherwise. She tells us a bit about her music-playing tool and how it contributes to her travel experience.

Tell us a bit about yourself – what do you do?
I’m a first year uni student, studying exercise science and rehabilitation.

How would you describe where we are at the moment?
There aren’t too many people today – it wouldn't bother me even if it was. I'm always occupied with myself on the bus anyway.

Do you have a regular seating place?
I’ll sit anywhere on the bus, depending on availability. Usually I’m up the back.

So when you’re up the back as you usually are, is that a place where you’re more comfortable with using your phone?
Not necessarily, I’m always using my phone, regardless of my location on the bus. Where I am doesn’t bother me.

What's your phone mostly used for on this trip?
I listen to music. It takes up time in the space between home and the uni.

You say you’re not bothered by other commuters or where you're sitting. What kinds of things might discourage you from using your phone?
If I’m sitting with friends, I tend not to use my phone. That’s if we’re chatting. Sometimes they’ll fall asleep or something and in that case I’ll put in my earphones as usual.

How would you feel if you didn’t have music to listen to on the bus?
I’d feel indifferent. I’ve gone without it before. Those times were because I’d forgotten my phone at home.

But you’d normally make the decision to carry your phone with you?
Yeah, it’s an essential.
